What do I need when I want to travel across the border of South Africa?

You can travel from South Africa into the following countries:

  • Namibia
  • Botswana
  • Zimbabwe
  • Zambia
  • Mozambique
  • Lesotho
  • Swaziland

In order to do that the following fees will apply (excluding the Rental Fee):

1) R25 000 Refundable Deposit (Repaid when the vehicle is returned less any damage (if any))

2) R500 per day Premium Package Insurance (Mandatory)

3) R750 Insurance Letter (this gets you across the border at Customs)

If you are a South African citizen with a valid drivers license then you will also require an international drivers license. You can apply at your nearest AA (Mandatory)

If you are a non-South African citizen with a valid drivers license you will require an international drivers license issued in English for insurance purposes which you need to apply in your country of origin before you travel to South Africa (Mandatory)
